As you interact with the website, we and our third-party partners collect certain information about you automatically through the use of cookies. The types of information collected through the use of cookies may include IP address, device information, the search terms you used, browser information, computer type, operating system, internet service provider, website usage, referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, content you access, number of clicks, and ads viewed.

A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that a website asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your login information, and your navigation and use of the website. Different types of cookies, such as session and persistent cookies, are used for different purposes. Some cookies, referred to as first-party cookies, are set by us, and this website may also use third-party cookies set by analytics and/or advertising partners. The types of cookies used at this website and purposes are set forth below.

When a user visits the website, the user will be prompted to approve of the attachment of a cookie. Users may instruct their web browsers to opt out of accepting a "persistent" cookie and rather accept only a "session" cookie, but will need to log in each time they visit the site to enjoy the full benefits and features. If the user declines the attachment of any cookie, the user may not have access to the full benefits and features of the website. Choices are browser and device specific, and if you clear cookies from the browser on any of your devices, your opt-out choices will need to be reset.

The following types of cookies are used at the website:

Strictly Necessary: These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work.

Performance: These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages and content are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous.

Functional: These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all website features may not function properly.

Advertising/Targeting: These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to show you relevant advertisements on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.

The table below identifies the first-party and third-party cookies used at this website. Note, however, that cookies used at the website may change from time to time, so this list may not always be accurate or complete.

See complete list of cookies below.

As set forth above, IFPA does not require that you accept cookies, however, some functionality on our website, our product or service check-out process, and products and services may be disabled if you decline to accept cookies. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. You may also change your cookie settings through the cookie tool on the website.

As described above, third-party advertising providers may use cookies to collect personal information about a user's online activities over time and across different websites to display advertisements on this website and other sites you visit and to track visitor behavior on our website and other sites. You can opt-out of the use of your personal information for interest-based advertising in the following ways:

  • Access our cookie preference tool, as described above.
  • Visit the Network Advertising Initiative (http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/) (“NAI”) or Digital Advertising Alliance (http://www.aboutads.info/choices/) (“DAA”) where you can opt-out of interest-based ads served by participating NAI and DAA members. Note, however, that not all advertising providers participate in the NAI and DAA. In addition, if you opt-out, you may still see online advertising from us and third parties, but the ads may be less relevant to you.
  • Block third party cookies in your browser settings.
  • Use privacy browsers or ad-blocking browser plug-ins that let you block advertising trackers.

If you have created an online account, you can update or delete certain information associated with your account by logging in to your account. In addition, IFPA provides an opportunity to opt-out of any commercial email communications it sends. While IFPA sends commercial email communications it believes will benefit recipients, such as a monthly newsletter, exhibitor bulletins and industry issue alerts, recipients have the right to request to be removed from the distribution lists for such communications using the unsubscribe link in an email message. Please note, however, that even if you opt-out of commercial email messages, you may continue to receive non-commercial communications that IFPA is entitled to send.

This section describes the rights provided to residents of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”).

For purposes of the GDPR, the data controller for this website is the International Fresh Produce Association, a District of Columbia non-profit corporation with a principal address at 1500 Casho Mill Road Newark, DE USA 19711.

The GDPR requires that we inform you of the legal bases we rely on to process your personal data. Personal data means any information about an identified or identifiable natural person. The legal bases for processing your personal data are set forth below.

  • Our legitimate interests. For example, to maintain system security, communicate with you and fulfill your requests, conduct surveys, improve our products and services, and protect our rights and the rights of others.
  • Performance of a contract with you. For example, when you apply for or renew an IFPA membership, register for an event, or purchase a product or service from us.
  • Compliance with laws. For example, to comply with legal and regulatory requirements or respond to a court order or legal request.
  • Consent. For example, we obtain consent to send you commercial email marketing messages. Where we rely on consent to process your personal data, you can withdraw your consent at any time.

The servers where personal data is stored are located in the United States , a jurisdiction that has not been deemed by the European Commission to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data. In addition, we share personal data with service providers and third parties located outside of the EEA. When we transfer personal data from the EEA to the United States, we rely on one or more of the mechanisms deemed by the European Commission to provide appropriate safeguards. Such mechanisms may include EU Standard Contractual Clauses or consent. [The EU privacy notice must describe the adequacy mechanisms the data controller relies on to transfer personal data from the EU to the U.S., but IFPA cannot include the highlighted statements until appropriate adequacy measures are in place.]

The GDPR provides residents of the EEA certain rights with respect to their personal data. If you are a resident of the EEA, you may:

  • Request access to your personal data;
  • Request correction of your personal data;
  • Request erasure of your personal data;
  • Object to processing of your personal data;
  • Request to restrict processing of your personal data;
  • Request that we provide you a copy of the personal data we have about you; and
  • Request to be subjected to automated decision-making or profiling.

You can exercise these rights by sending an email to memberservices@freshproduce.com with a description of your request. We will endeavor to fulfill your request to exercise these rights, but we may have legal grounds or obligations to reject your request. We will respond within 30 days after we have verified that you are the data subject or are authorized to make the request on behalf of the data subject. If necessary, we may extend our response time by an additional 60 days to respond properly, but we will notify you if that is the case.

If we decide not to fulfill your request, we will tell you the reasons why. If you disagree with our response to your request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection regulator in Europe. Should you have any concerns, we request that you contact us first so we can investigate, and hopefully resolve, your concerns.

This website may contain links to other websites. IFPA is not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites. You should review the privacy policy for each third party website you visit to understand the owner’s privacy practices.

IFPA strives to employ commercially reasonable security measures to help protect your personal information against loss, unauthorized access, or unauthorized acquisition or disclosure. Nevertheless, no data transmission is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information.

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active, as necessary to provide our products and services, or as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
